Shaker Kitchen

Shaker Dining Room by Paul Thomas DesignsOur Shaker kitchen features our own hand crafted Shaker style cabinetry. Long flowing lines are achieved with the use of simple crown molding and flat-panel doors. Our honey stained cherry cabinets create a warm glowing effect throughout the kitchen.

The Shaker styled kitchen shown here is a completely hand-made custom kitchen. Built in 1846, the kitchen has a large fireplace and a beautiful white oak medium width planked floor. Both the fireplace and floor are original to the home. When we came on to the kitchen project, storage was by way of two very old cupboards, an original pie safe, and a very large pantry cupboard. Also in the original kitchen was an old farmhouse white cast iron sink on four cast iron legs.

Built in double-oven has a large cabinet for ample storing above the oven. Below the oven (not shown) is a cookie sheet drawer attached to full-extension self-closing slides.

On the left side of the double-oven cabinet is a tall pantry cupboard with two doors. Inside the lower half of the tall pantry cupboard are adjustable shelves. The upper cabinet has has vertical dividers making easy storage for cutting boards and full size baking sheets.

The old Farmhouse sink shown here was one of the driving points for this kitchen. It was re-enameled and fitted with a new faucet. The legs were removed so that a cabinet could be built to hold the sink.

Above the sink are several cabinets including a dish rack and a glass door cabinet. The glass is antique glass. The right most cabinet has adjustable shelves in the upper half. The lower half conceals the microwave oven and has a flip-up styled door.

In the foreground is large island that we made. It has several drawers, also on self-closing slides. The top is quartz and matches the quartz counter top. The island top was later cut to incorporate a gas cook top.

In the background is a glimpse of the original pantry cupboard that we restored inside in out.

Beneath the sink are drawers and doors. The right most door is a waste-basket pull-out mounted on self-closing slides.

On the back of the island is a drop leaf table. Shown with the table down. When table space is needed, the table is lifted up and held in place by slide out table supports.

In the background is the old pie safe that we restored and painted with our vintage paint.

The island is shown with the drop-down table in the up position.

The cutout on the quartz island top is for the cook top.
